Being fashionable... without breaking the bank.

Resolution #2: Learn to love your local thrift stores!

~The beauty of thrifting we discovered this past summer on a road trip to visit Tori's family in Carmel. We spent the entire day driving along the coast of HWY 1 and scouring different thrift stores using a hand-drawn map as a guide. This day exemplified all of the great things that can come out of thrifting regularly.

~One positive is (obviously) the price difference. A shirt that was originally $20 has been reduced to $6. And a pair of $50 dollar jeans now hang on the rack with a price tag of $7. This is the clearest advantage to thrifting. The amount of clothing one can buy for under $20 is miraculous. Rowyn has made it a tradition to never spend more than $20 with each store visit.

~Another bonus is the store's uncanny ability to please any shopper who walks in. In the picture above both Tori's dress and jean jacket were thrifted while my black tank top and jean vest were as well.  Tori's classic jean jacket and baby doll white dress match Rowyn's vintage jean vest and lace maxi skirt (graciously sewn by Tori's aunt). May we add the fact that this unintentionally matching happens all of the time...we secretley love it!

~Our similar sense of style allows us to match, while still incorporating our own personalities. A shopper has the capacity to tweak their style depending on what they are most comfortable wearing, and not on what is the biggest trend at the moment.

~Lastly, thrifting is fun! It's something that requires hardly any spending and no long car rides. So call up a friend and cancel all your plans to spend the day scouring your city for all the thrift shops! You might find a few duds, but just keep looking and know that you could find THE staple item to your wardrobe somewhere in between the clothes aisles.

Have fun!
